The "Sig like Pony's sig" Sig Tutorial!!!1 (Slightly advanced)

Woah.
That means this.

I'm not sure how it looks with actual videogame characters, so please post your results from this tutorial.

Anyway, it's actually very simple... Not that much different then my smudging/C4D tutorial, except you don't need any C4D's. But this is kinda a "calm/cute" sig so you're gonna want some soft brushes.

So first open GIMP, pick your image size. I used 320x130.

tadaaaaa
Now get your gradient tool (Look for it in the main GIMP window or just press L) and do a radial gradient with these settings - Don't color it, just stick with black & white.

Now do a gradient on your sig, where you're going to put your render. Try to make it look something like this.

If I were you I'd wait, but you can start using brushes now. If you do, your results could differ. :O

Now, if you go MY way and skip doing this for now, go to Layer>New Layer and paste in your render. It should look something like this.

Notice that my wolf render has its paw "cut off". A fellow sig expert would go nuts on me if I kept it like this and asked for criticism. So, I'm going to fade that out a bit - It doesn't make it look that bad, and it goes with the "calm" sig flow. You can do this by:

1. Selecting your eraser tool, select a circle brush, and lower the opacity to around 40 or 50. Lightly brush on what you want to fade out.

2. Press F and use these settings, then "circle" what you want to fade and go to Edit>Cut.

I ended up with...

Still not great but who will notice? :)
Now it's time to brush. Go to Dialogs>Layers and click the Background. Then pick a soft brush in the main window. Do not use any colors, or colorize when you're done. Just use black and brush just a few times. If it suits you better, just hide "New Layer" by clicking the 'eye' to the left of it and clicking that empty spot when you want to unhide it.

Now go to your layers dialog again, select New Layer and duplicate it (Layer>Duplicate Layer) 4 times. Unhide all but the first "New Layer" by clicking the eye.

Get the smudge tool (S), pick a soft brush (I'll be using a "Cloud" brush) and smudge just a bit, with 100 Opacity and 50 Rate.

Go to Dialogs>Layers, set that layer to Dodge and this will show up.

The wolf on that layer has been terminated.
Unhide the next layer by clicking the blank spot by the next layer up, where the eye used to be.

Then smudge again, and set that layer to Overlay.

Now unhide the next one, smudge, and set it to Soft Light. Then the next one, to Multiply, and then unhide the last one ("New Layer Copy #3") and don't do anything to it. Just add the text and border and you're done! But you're free to play with the layers, this is only just what I used.

Feel free, and please do, post your results.

You can play with the layer modes until you get something you do like; I only showed the ones I used.

Thanks everyone.
