Chapter 1 There was no typical day in my life. But one day was really wild. It was the first day of a new, even crazier life. A dog was whimpering at our back door. Someone he'd snuck into our bacyard. He looked so helpless and lonely. I went to my mom and showed it to her. "Don't let it in," she said sternly, "It could be a coyote. it's hard to tell the difference between a dog and a coyote." This could be possible. After all, the dog was not like any other I'd seen. It had short floppy ears, a scruffy short hair that was a mixture of brown shades, and was pretty big, about the size of a Golden Retriever. "Then how will we get it out of our backyard?" I asked. "If it got in, it can get out." "But what if it doesn't want to go out? it might stay in our backyard until we let it in. And if we can't get near it then we can't get it out. Plus, what if we have to get into our backyard?" "Well, we'll just wait and see if it leaves." I did some research later. I found lots of pictures of coyotes and mixed dogs to compare them with each other. I found and learned tips on how to tell them apart, and I was convinced it was just a mixed breed of dog. I really wanted a dog. i had 3 cats that I loved, but I really wanted a dog.
Later on, I showed my mom the pictures and information.
"I don't think we can keep it, anyway," she said, unconvinced.
That night i overheard her talking with my dad. My dad said that he, too, thought it was a mixed dog. I couldn't understand what else they were saying, so I just layed in bed. i could'nt fall asleep.
When I was sure everyone was asleep, I snuck out into the backyard. The dog barked. "Shhh!" I whispered. The house still seemed quiet. I gave the dog some wet cat food that was described as "Chicken dinner" and some leftover beef and chicken from dinner. figured the cat food was mostly real meat, and healthier than dry cat food.
he hungrily gobbled it down and licked my hand with affection. I snuck inside again quickly, hoping noone woke up.
