Yeah, so as you know, I take riding lessons every Saturday.
So there's this girl named Katy. She rode a more challenging horse yesterday (as did I, but we'll get to that later). He was Thoroughbred, he was a nice looking horse too. Katy had a crop (like what they use in horse races. It just gets the horse moving if they feel lazy) and she smacked her horse on the butt with it to get him trotting. I was right behind her, and I saw the whole scene unfold in front of my eyes:
Her horse started to canter, and Katy tried to slow him down (we haven't started cantering yet), she was panicked, which made her horse's canter very hectic. In the process of pulling back the reins to slow him down, she led him towards the center of the arena where some jump poles are located to set up jumps with. She fell off and fell right on her arm, which landed right on the pole.
I managed to hold my horse back, just in case he had decided to speed up as well. Katy broke into tears immediately , and said she couldn't move her arm. I felt terrible for her. She just tumbled right off her horse directly on her arm. I don't think it's broken, but it was really scary to watch.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the horse's fault by any means. Katy had smacked too hard with the crop, which sent him the wrong message.
The good news out of this story is that I rode the cutest horse in the world! His name is Moe, and he's a Haflinger. He also likes eating, so every time we passed the hay in the back of the arena, I had to send him the message that he's not going to go over there to grab a snack. It's helped me learn to gain control over horses, to let them know I'm in charge.
So yeah.. intense lesson, eh? :D
Go ahead and share any similar stories if you wish.
Today my sister went for a lesson, [dont ask why I dont go. I'm not getting into it.] and somehow some guy almost killed everyone in the area. I dont know how, and my sister didnt see either cause she wasn't in the arena yet.
Though another time I did hear someone talking about a horse who broke down a stall wall because it got nuts for some reason.
When I rode though, even though I can't recall much, that sort of thing did happen once. They sent this horse to a trainer and the trainer made the horse worse. He bucked everytime you got on him, he knocked people off of him.
He was a sweet horse before that, but after they couldn't ride him at all. And also there's a stallion where my sister went today, he got crazy, he was rearing and stuff.
My summer lessons the year before (...Not 2007, 2006)....INTENSE. 0_0
The first day, the trainer told us to do a bunch of stirrup-less stuff. THE FIRST DAY WHEN MOST PEOPLE HADN'T RIDDEN IN MONTHS. o.o In this process, my horse was quite the jerk, so I fell off 3 times in the process of sitting trot, posting trot, and canter with out stirrups. Funfunfun!
In the process of that week the following OTHER stuff happened:
A girl's horse was so bad, (rearing, bucking, ect) that they made her get a different horse, and they moved the horse to the highest level of riders.
The girl who was on the worst horse of them all didn't do anything, but ANOTHER horse that hated the bad horse tried to kick him, and kicked the girl's foot. It swelled up to like...Three times it's size.
A girl fainted off her horse in exaustion, but woke up when she hit the ground.
Yes, my friend was learning how to canter and she had a reeeeeaaaaaally moody horse so when she asked her to canter the horse got into a very fast canter. Then my friend's foot came out of the stirrup and she was accidentily (sp?) kicking her horse and that made her gallop, and my friend fell off and her arm hit the rail beside her. She broke her arm...
Aaaand once I was on a trail ride and I geuss I didn't tighten the cinch tight enough (I was riding western) and the saddle slipped over to the side and I fell.
i remember at my old lesson place this one girl almost got thrown of the horse because it started rearing and bucking. then another time at the summer camp, we were leading the horses in, and a girl decided to take the moody/difficult/bad horse into their stalls. the horse pulled away from her and ran into the barn. me and this other kid almost got ran over but we jumped out of the way.
