EDIT: Spoiler-boxed it to lessen loading times.

So this morning I went hiking with my dad, on a trek to do a bunch of cliched water-motion-blur pictures. This means being in awkward positions and trying to find a place among the rocks to put the tripod. But hey, it's all worth it for those amazingly cliched pictures. It was a fun four-hour hike anyways.

So one of my goals was to get a hummingbird picture or two. I got 'em, they're not fantastic, but I'm happy nonetheless. It'll probably take you some searching to find the hummingbird... which is what kinda got me mad. Oh well.

This is all in my backyard btw.

Btw, what kind of tripod do you have? I have a really crappy one, my Dad has a great one, but it's really heavy. I also love to hike, and I'm looking to find a nice tripod that's light. Yours is?

We have two, and we took the Velbon mini II on the hike (a picture of it is on the first post. One of the legs weren't extended, so it looks uber-short). My dad just found one that he forgot he had that goes to 52" so expect that to be used.

The mini one extends to about 3 feet, I'd say and is about 4 pounds. Not bad. The tripod my dad just found seems even lighter though, so I guess we'll be using that. :P

Even without comparison, the Velbon isn't too terrible. It was light enough where carrying it around while the camera was still attached wasn't a pain. There were some times when we could've used the extra height though.

Hey kiddies! I was gone away at camp, and naturally didn't bring the Rebel so I was out of picture-taking comission for about a week. So I'm back with some pictures I took last night using stroboscopic flash. Basically what it does is pulse flashes rapidly (you can set it to whatever you want, I went anywhere from 15-30 hertz) and the end effect is a slideshow-like sequence in one picture.

The flash I use (the Speedlite 580EX) is a great flash, and still holds its own against the 580EXII. Look it up if you're curious.

That's one of the best ones, although you can see I was using a first grade test as scratch paper (literally first grade, I'm certain. My teacher corrected it in purple and she loved purple.)

I tried some where I was rolling through the picture, but they didn't really work out. I'll probably try a bunch more later and we'll see if I have any other ideas.
