Been playing around with the nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8) lens, it's a great deal of IQ for the price. Autofocus could be better, though.
Getting pictures of Chip is way easier now because I've got four more stops of light to work with than I'm used to. Higher shutter speeds mean I can catch really random stuff. Like her tongue.
Update moved to the previous page, newest one is farther down
I love the hawk shot, that's really neat that you caught the third eyelid. The light shot you got printed is really cool, it's kinda fun and funky. Very nice pictures :D
Shanks. It was hilarious how we were driving home from church and it landed on the lightpole and we were all "WHOAAA". I carry the XT and the 80-200 lens in the car every Sunday for things like that.
I really like the shot I got printed because it's 'layered'. You can see faint scribbles in the "background" I guess you can see, and it is pretty funky. That's a good word for it. :P Thanks.
Most of these are with the nifty fifty, and I'm really happy with them.
Spoiler
One of my favorite pictures. Wide-open at f/1.8, ISO 200.
This one is slightly misfocused, but that's what happens when you have a super-shallow DOF.
I like the background colors on this one. No idea how I got the painterly background or blur on the other... things.
These cat pictures weren't taken with the nifty fifty, for future reference.
The lighting situation was difficult here... I had to slightly underexpose the cat to keep the background not totally blown out. Still worked out well enough though.
I really like this one, but I'm iffy about the background. Still, I like the capture and the overall feel.
As you can see here, +1/3 EV gives me a better cat but a worthless background.
I pumped the contrast way up on this one.
These next ones were taken when we were taking down the Christmas stuff. All 50mm f/1.8 shots.
My aperture wasn't small enough to get all of Santa in focus :(

Spoiler
I'm still doing some post-processing on this one, but this is what I have so far.
There's some things I don't like about this one (concrete strip background, intruding in-focus stem), but I like the colors.
Some straightening, cloning, cropping, and a minor contrast boost and here we are.
