Thanks guys. I took them with the kit lens (take that, kit lens haters) because the nifty fifty's minimum focusing distance was too large. Nifty fifty is 1.5 feet while the kit lens is 0.9 feet, but I've found that it seems to be a lot closer than that. Zooming into 55mm helps, too. With these shots the closer distance negated any shallower DOF I could've gotten at f/1.8.
Ngal, yeah that and the first one are my favorites. I'm trying to find one to maybe 8x10 and maybe hang up. Most of them were wide-open (f/5.6 usually because I was typically at 55mm) and the shots were still very sharp. It was a fun day, I was looking for distractions from studying for finals :P
You guys must get more rain than we do here :( I've wanted to try stuff like that but it always got too dark before I got the chance and it doesnt rain much >:(

that old sig was big as fuck so i just removed it you're welcome
It poured overnight and drizzled in the morning, so the drops were still big and fresh. I accidentally walked too far into the bush getting into position for a picture and it like FWOOSHED water droplets. It was pretty cool.
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f230/lock22/IMG35147_clone_resized.png ^ That's neat, good use of DOF on Obama. ;D The downtown one is neat, there's so much to look at.
School's been sucking up my life and probably will be for awhile. Here's 4 shots (WOW FOUR).
Funny story. When my dad was printing my photos at our local CVS (pharmacy store place that has like everything), they made him sign a release form because supposedly the photos were professional and they wanted to make sure he wasn't jacking anything and he was cleared to print them. It was a confidence boost :x
They wrote on the receipt to get the release form.
Spoiler
Really weird grasshopper thing yeahhhhhhh
Taken in a softbox. I should use cloth instead of paper for the backdrop though.
AND OF COURSE
DUN DUN DUN
The 70-200 f/4L that I picked up recently. The thing is an absolute beast. Awesome sharpness wide-open on both ends of the focal length, super-fast and near-silent autofocus, full-time manual focus override, and excellent build quality. This is Canon's cheapest "L" lens, but it doesn't show. Great thing to look into if you want to get serious about shooting sports and the like.

tyvm ppl
Some other stuff.
Re-cropping of an old shot. PB screwed up the size though.
Yes, Albert Einstein really loves his finger that much.
One of my favorites. No editing, although later I think I'll deepen the silhouette of the cityscape area.
The bokeh's always greener on the other side! This is the 70-200 f/4L's minimum focus distance at f/5.6 (not even wide open) and you can see how shallow it is.
Turkey vulture.
Some cropping, again pushing the new lens' minimum focus distance. Razor-sharp, wide open. This thing is an absolute joy to use.

Hay guise. Some new stuff. With titles too, because when I post them up on Flickr I like having a decent title. I've been coming up with them fairly quickly, too!
ty. First one is with the nifty. Comes in handy when I've only got artificial light to work with.
And the lens is really great. With my old one I had to stop it all the way down to f/8 to get decent sharpness, which is retarded since it's a telephoto and you need the fastest shutter speed you can get. Wide-open and ISO 200 or 400 should give some real action-freezing shots and good subject isolation during sports.
