Chapter One: Where Are You? Three puppies were sitting on a rock. Over looking a large desert. The puppies were only 3 months old, and were strays. They had been born in the desert after their mother was abandoned because she was going to have puppies. They still had their mother, fortunately, and were living in a den outside a town in Arizona. The town was called Tombstone. The name had freaked them out, but they lived there lives. The three was a group of two males and one female. The males names were Sparrow and Jack. The female was named after an Indian who ghost was said to appear the exact moment the little puppy was born. They named her Kaya. She was special, because the ghost of the Indian girl supposedly blessed her. The puppies were all pure bred huskies. But they might have a little bit of wolf in them. They have heard their father was .13% wolf. Since Sparrow and Jack were twins, they both were white and red huskies. But Kaya, as I had said, was special. She was all white. But had a peculiar star shape on her head in between her ice blue eyes. Anyway, the three were looking for their mother, she had gone out hunting a few hour ago. And hadnt returned. Where was she? Is she okay?
Chapter Two: No Way Out It had been a few hours, and she still hadnt returned. Maybe we should go to bed said Jack. NO! Were waiting, and thats that! said Sparrow. I say we should look for her. I dont know about you, but Im getting really worried. Kaya said. The twins ignored her, and kept arguing. Why are my brothers such..suchIDIOTS!! All they do is fight! One day ILL be ruler of dogs, and they are going to be my servants. Thatll show em. K-K-K-KAY-Y-YAA-A!!!!! LOOK!!!! said the twins. Kaya turned around, approaching was a herd of Javelina (pronounced Hah vuh Leena). If you lived in AZ, youd know why this wasnt a good thing. Javelina can be vicious if they felt endangered. And three wolf-like puppies, they were danger to a Javelina. Also, they smell. Their odor is so bad I can drive off a skunk! Now, as the Herd approached, the stench was becoming stronger, and the air around Kaya and the twins made their eyes water. GUYS! RUN!!!! Said Sparrow. No, just hide, they cant see all that well. We should be safe. Said Kaya. The three hid behind something large enough to hide them. We should be safe...thats encouraging! said Jack. Kaya listened, and sniffed, realizing that the Javelina were coming right at them! Thats weird, why would they she stopped. When she look up, she realized they had been hiding behind a prickly pear. Which is a javelins favorite food. There was no way out!
Chapter Three: Trapped Why is it still stinky? said Sparrow. Kaya pointed above them. He noticed they were behind a prickly pear. WERE DEAD!! he cried out. SHUT UP! YOUR GOING TO ATTRA.. she stopped. Listened what she heard made her yelp. Is she dead? The red wolf, that is. said a Javelina. No, but shes hurt. said a second one, a female, this time. Where is she? asked the first one. A feeling of sadness and rage filled Kaya. They had hurt her mother!! The was going to hurt them, until she heard the female. We put her in a cave, near the oasis. Shes going to be fine, but for now shes hurt. I cant believe that human. Almost hitting her with that metal thing. Poor girl. now a wave of relief, she knew where her mother was, she knew she was going to be ok! Now she was pleased. But scared. *ACHOO!* Kaya sneezed. What was that? said the female Javelina. I think it was a sneeze said the other one. They had come to look behind , but saw nothing. thats strange, I heard it from here!! the two looked behind, and.
Chapter Four: We're Off Gone. Luckily, the three pups managed to sneak away while they were talking. "That was close" Whispered Jack. "Shhhh! They could follow us!" warned Kaya. as the puppies tried to hide themselves in the practically flat desert landscape, Sparrow trips over a rock, and stumbles on top of the other two siblings. They all land in a heap on the ground. As they try to get up, Jack steps on a cactus. He jumps up and whimpers. "We have to get to the oasis! Mom could be in trouble!" She said "Bu---" Jack started. "NO BUTS! We have to get moving now!" Kaya says, cutting him off and walking toward her destination, The Oasis.
Chapter Five: The Beginning It was going to be a long journey to the oasis. It was pretty far out there, towards the Arizona-Mexico border. That was a dangerous place for three young puppies to be, all the border patrol had weapons, and might think they were coyotes, ready to strike. "Guys, are you coming or what?" Kaya said. "Yeah. Hold on!" said Jack. They were packing some food. Kaya rolled her eyes, and whispered almost to herself, "Why bring food? We don't need it!" They had finally started their long journey. Sparrow was carrying the food sack on his back. Kaya wasn't happy with it, but let them do as they please. As they hiked over the hill, they could see the wonderful Arizona sunrise. Kaya paused, sniffing the air. It was so beautiful out. But her nose caught another scent. It was something strange, something familiar, something dangerous. Her ears perked up, listening to the sounds around her. She heard a weird growl. She spun around. Standing above her was a coyote. His breath smelled of rabbit, and his yellow-gray eyes had a look of hunger in them. Her brothers had turned around too. and saw him. They froze, and just stood there. The coyote let out a long, loud howl. Which Kaya knew was a sign that he had found breakfast, and was calling his other pack-mates. What were they to do? Kaya knew Jack and Sparrow were counting on her. But she was as confused as her brothers.....
Chapter Six: A New Idea Kaya knew she had to do some quick thinking....she was really scared of these coyotes...as any pup would be. She looked around, and realized that the coyotes were closing in, forming a circle around Kaya. She hesitantly said "Jack? Sparrow? Hello? A Little help would be nice!" But then she realized they had fled. *Oh. My. God. What. jerks.* she thought. She wasnt sure what to do! She looked around at the landscape, it was flat and rocky. Your average desert. She saw a few horny toads scampering from here to there. A lot of tall Saguaro Cacti, a cactus that only grows in Arizona. Then an idea popped into her head! she was certain this would work. Her inspiration, a jack rabbit hopping along in the bushes.....
Chapter Seven: The Great Escape
Why would they want to eat something of their own kind? Kaya thought. She realized they must be desperate. Back to her plan. She wasnt sure how this would work, but she was going to try. The pack was closing in on her. Time to get this started, she thought. She groped around for the nearest rock. When she finally grabbed one, she threw it towards the jack rabbit. The pack watched the rock tumble down the hill and stop. Their eyes locked on the rabbit. The pack leader let out a growl. Which must have told the rest of them to get up and go. They yelped and howled as they ran towards the rabbit. Kaya let out a sigh of relief. Now to find my brothers she thought. She had begun to walk in the direction of their light scent, when all of a sudden, she heard whimpering..
Chapter Eight: What Idiots
It cant beoh please dont be the idiots.Kaya thought. She heard the whimpers, they were louder, and the scent; it was stronger. She knew what was coming. She braced herself for it. Kaya reached the spot where she knew they had to be. She peeked around a bush to find Jack and Sparrow playing around and pretending to whimper. They must have done it just to annoy meIll show them Kaya thought. She quickly rolled around in some dark colored dust near by, making her fur a darker, more wolf like color, and jumped at the two pups. The two pups nearly wet themselves. Ha! Thats what you two get for pranking the master! Kaya laughed Sorry, we were trying to have some fun, and with mom being gone, we thought we could get away with this, replied Sparrow Too bad! Now Cmon! We need to find mom! Be careful though, there are a few packs of coyotes out there, and they seem hungry! She warned Dont worry, well be fine, as long as we have our food! Said Sparrow. NO! Leave the food, itll attract the coyotes Jack barked. Kaya was shocked, those two never had the smartest idea, and now Jack knows whats right. Peculiar...I wonder whats gotten into himKaya wondered. Guys cmon! The oasis is this way! Kaya called. The three pups all knew that something bad was going to happen along the way, but they moved on. Chapter 9: A New Friend
Kaya trudged along in the hot sun. It was noon, and June 22nd. Kaya had heard that this day was the longest day of the year, and wasnt too pleased. TOO-HOT! CANT-GO-ON WITH OUT.FOOOD! Panted the twins. They, of course, were putting their stomachs before their safety. Thank god Im normal Kaya thought. Guys, lets take a break, its hot out, and Im tired. She said. Hopefully they would be okay alone in the desert for a while. Kaya found the safest spot, padded around in circles, and gently plopped on the ground, her head resting on her dirty paws. After a few seconds, the three young pups drifted off to sleep, forgetting all their troubles.
Hello? Are you ok dear? Kaya was gently awoken by a red wolf with some blonde mixed in here and there. What time is it Mr. Bologna? You know I dont need to get up for duty until 9...the ninjas dont know about the stash yet She mumbled, still slightly delusional. No, your in the desert. Its night, and finally cooling off. You were dreaming, something about missing mom, and two idiots, said the Red Wolf. Kaya perked up, she had forgotten that her mother was gone, she had forgotten about her brothers. That sleep had been so refreshing, and felt so good getting out of the sun. Now it was dark, and this stranger was trying to help them Who are you? Kaya asked. Im Akim, Im just here to help you guys find your mother. Akim replied W-what do you mean? Kaya asked. I know what happened, I was there. Ill show you the way
Chapter 10: The Truth
Kaya stared at Akim, arguing with herself in her mindMaybe I should ask what happened.NO! Just follow her..I like bunnieshmm...maybe thats the answer again..All of a sudden, the question slipped out. What happened? Just, hear me out, Im desperate. I miss her, my mom of course. So what happened? Kaya stumbled over the words, but the question came out. Akim looked at her, at had a deep look of thought in her eyes. Well, you see, I had met Siyarah, your mother down by the watering whole as she was taking a water break. We had started chatting. Then I heard some weird noises, I tried to alert Siyarah., but she wasnt really paying attention. So I hid. Thats all I remember. I blacked out after that, but I did emerge eventually. When I did, there were Javelina putting water on her cuts, and then they softly put her into the cave, making sure she was okthen I walked over to see if she really was ok, she told me to find you guys.let you know she was ok Explained Akim Kaya was relived, yet shockedshe didnt know what to think. Her thoughts were broken once again buy a smellthis wasnt coyote, wasnt Javelina, what was it? Kaya couldnt seem to put her nose on it. Then a raspy voice You hungry? I sure am. Hungry for wolf that is! Chapter 11: Dust
Kaya looked up. Sitting on a rock above was a Gila (he-lah) Monster. Living in the desert, you know from the minute you were born that these are the most poisonous reptiles in the Arizona deserts. Kaya, being smart as she was, froze, and started into its beady little eyes. Eyes filled with hunger and evil. Kaya was scared, and glued to gritty dust, unsure what to do. All of a sudden, Akim spoke up. Get out of our way! Now! Im hungry, and NOT moving until I get my lunch. Said the Gila Monster, flicking its black tongue at them. Theres no use, were done for. Kaya thought. A tear rolled out of the corner of her eyes, and down her white fur. Begging and crying wont do anything, so just say your good-byes, said the vicious beast. Kaya was scared. She closed her eyes and prayed for their safety. All of a sudden, Kaya opens her eyes, to find some dust start spinning. She smiled to herself, knowing they were all fine. A dust devil would most likely blind him for a second, letting them escape. As the dust gathered and it picked up speed, the monster was arguing with Akim, Kaya wasnt listening to them though. All of a sudden, the devil passed the moster, leaving him temporarily blind. Cmon guys! Into those bushes! Kaya said
