POLTERGUST5000 Step by step gide to raising a Nintendog

This guide may seem familiar to you.It was POLTURGUST5000's guide and I thought it would be helpful. So all credit for this guide goes to him.I don't really have his permission but I am giving him ALL credit. So enjoy.

This guide mentions things other than the Nintendog encyclopedias. This guide will consist of mostly FAQs and tips to increase one's knowledge for caring for his/her Nintendog.

Choosing your Nintendog:

  • It should be noted that you start the game with a limited supply of money, and that you will only be able to buy 1 Nintendog.
  • You have 2 options; 1, you can buy a Nintendog, or 2, you can look at the Kennel puppies. Touch the icon your want.
  • It's not a bad idea to check out the Kennel puppies to get a taste of a Nintendog's fickle behavior.
  • After you buy your pooch, you cannot switch it out until you've saved enough money for it (see the money section for more info).
  • What version you have will determine the breeds of dogs you can purchase.
  • To see whether or not your dog is male or female, I should note that the symbol of the circle with an arrow is male, and the circle with a cross is female.
  • Try to pick a dog with a good personality. After you've chosen what dog you want, read its brief biography and see if it sounds like a loyal pup.
  • Nintendogs come in 3 main colors. It can be difficult to find the personality and the color you want, but if you find it, you won't be disappointed.

Taking your Nintendog Home:

  • As with all new pets, your Nintendog will be scared after you bring it home. Touch the whistle icon to bring it over to you.
  • Don't be afraid to give it lots of love. Use the Stylus to pet your pooch until it feels safe and secure.
  • Go gentle and slow with your Nintendog. The personality you picked will determine its actions.
  • Finally, after you pet it enough, your Nintendog will finally calm down and explore its new environment. Give it a little time to become adjusted.
  • Now you get to name your dog. Be sure to pronounce the dog's name clearly to avoid confusing it.
  • When you're ready, touch the microphone icon to begin the recording session. Say your dog's name.
  • If your dog could not understand you, don't give up. Repeat the name as many times as you have to for it to get its name down.
  • After your dog knows his/her name, call him/her over once more to teach it its first trick.
  • The first standard trick is "sit". To teach your dog sit, pet it on the head, then gently swing the Stylus down its snout. It should sit.
  • But it's not that simple; to teach a dog to sit whenever you want to will require rigorous training, as with advanced tricks as well.
  • Immediately after your dog sits down, the microphone icon will appear. Touch it to say the trick name.
  • Remember to pronounce the trick name clearly for a better chance of it understanding the trick.
  • After you say the name in the microphone, and you don't confuse your dog, it will bark in agreement.
  • A golden lightbulb will appear. Touch it and drag it to your dog's mouth as a bonus treat.
  • As you advance in the game, "sit" is not the only trick you can teach your Nintendog (see the advanced trick section for more info).

Your Nintendog's Home-Screen:

  • At the home-screen of your Nintendog, you can access many ways of caring for your Nintendog.
  • The Supplies List icon: where you can give your Nintendog food or water, treats, toys, etc.
  • The Go Out icon: where you can take your puppy for a walk, enter contests, and go inside stores.

Meals, Showers, and Grooming:

  • After you've named your Nintendog, touch its name to bring up its status page to see how hungry, thirsty, or dirty it is.
  • If your dog is hungry or thirsty, give it food or water (to learn how to buy things for your Nintendog, check the shopping section for more info).
  • If you do not feed your Nintendog or give it water regularly, it may feel unwanted and run away from home for a little.
  • Don't get mad at your puppy if it runs away. When it comes back, pet it lots until it feels loved.
  • Your dog may bring back something during its excursion, such as a present (see the walks section for more info).
  • Also check your dog's coat. If it's below the "clean" rank, you should give it a bath.

Giving your Nintendog a Bath:

  • It's important to keep your Nintendog clean, so when it gets dirty, you need to shower it.
  • To give your dog a shower, touch the Care icon under the Supplies List icon and browse until you see the "dog shampoo" icon.
  • Confirm to give your dog a bath and you will begin the first order of business.
  • First, use the Stylus to scrub your dog with the sponge until you hear a beeping noise. This indicates it's time to use the showerhead.
  • Touch the showerhead icon to wash the soap off of your Nintendog.
  • It's ideal to brush your dog after a bath to untangle the coat. You can buy either a short-hair or long-hair brush depending on your dog's coat type.
  • If your dog's coat in the "dirty" or "filthy" rank, it will require 2 rounds of washing.
  • Your dog will get fleas if you are too negligent with its coat. Avoid this by giving it at least 1 bath daily.
  • Your dog tends to get fleas on walks or in the stops during your walk (see the walks section for more info).

Sports, Toys, and Music:

  • You can play with your Nintendog using the toys you find on walks. This helps relieve it of stress and trapped energy.
  • Chew toys are ideal for strengthening a puppy's teeth.
  • You can find records to play during walks. What music you play will determine the actions of your Nintendog.

Money:

  • After you begin the game, you will start with a limited sum of money.
  • Be careful that you don't get bankrupt and can't care for your Nintendog.
  • You can earn additional money by entering contests (see the contests section for more info).

Shopping:

  • You only start out with a little food and a little water. You must go to the store to buy additional care packages.
  • There are 5 main stores, each selling or offering care in a variety of ways.
  • Kennel: where you can buy another Nintendog.
  • Pet Supply: you'll be relying on them a lot, since this is where you can buy food, water, toys, and clothing for your Nintendogs.
  • Secondhand Shop: where you can sell supplies you don't need anymore or just have doubles of.
  • Interior Decorator: where you can change the layout of your room, but it won't come cheap.
  • Dog Hotel: if you have 2 or more dogs, you can store up them here and pick them up when you want. It's free, so don't hesitate.
  • Note: you can get additional money by selling supplies you don't need at the Secondhand Shop.

Walks

  • It's important for a puppy to build up its strength, and it's recommended that you take your dog on at least 1 walk per day.
  • To begin the walk, touch the Go Out icon and touch Walk.
  • Then use the Stylus to draw your route that starts and ends at your house.
  • The yellow bar is the puppy's stamina meter. At first you will only be able to go for short walks, but the more you walk, the longer you can go.
  • After you regain more stamina, you can enter shops and parks along the way.
  • To enter a store or park, draw the route inside the entrance and back out. You will enter the shop when your walk begins.
  • The park is a great place to practice for Disc Competitions (see the contests section for more info), just make sure there aren't other dogs there.
  • If you want to play with the neighborhood dogs, find a park that has 1 or 2 dogs in it to get your dog to interact with those dogs.
  • After you obtain more stamina, you can enter the gym to practice for Agility Trials (see the contest section for more info).
  • You can find presents/neighborhood dogs along your walks by drawing your route through the ? blocks on the Touch Screen.
  • Sometimes your dog will pass by a present. Tug its leash swiftly to make it retrieve the gift for you.
  • You never know what the presents will contain, but they're usually toys or accessories you can't find in stores.
  • To interact with a neighborhood dog, tug your dog's leash toward the other dog. Wait for both of them to settle down before having them meet, though.
  • If you make your dog greet the other dog too soon, they might get into a fight.
  • If you do it too late, you might miss your chance at having them interact.
  • Sometimes the dogs will accept each other's presence and cuddle for a while.
  • Playing with neighborhood dogs can leave your dog in a good mood.

Contests:

  • You can enter your dog in a variety of competitions, such as disc throwing, trick performing, and other intense categories.
  • Aside from selling products, contests are the only way to earn money.
  • There are 3 main categories of contests you can enter.
  • Disc Competition: throw as many Flying Discs as you can and have your dog catch them before the timer hits zero.
  • Obedience Trial: you will have to tell your dog to do tricks for a specific amount of time.
  • Agility Trial: like an obstacle course. Guide your dog through chasms, tunnels, hurdles, etc. before the timer hits zero.
  • You need to train your dog to enter competitions, such as practicing at the park by throwing Flying Discs or telling your dog to perform tricks.
  • You need to train at the gym before you can enter an Agility Trial contest.
  • Note: petting your dog after it performs a trick while training for an Obedience Trial is very effective.
  • Note: the judging for Obedience Trials can be affected by how clean your puppy's coat is. Make sure to wash and brush it before entering.

Bark Mode:

  • A special feature in Nintendogs is the Bark Mode, where you and another Nintendogs owner can interact with each other's dogs.
  • To enter the Bark Mode, touch the Go Out icon and touch Bark Mode.
  • You can bring along one of your supplies to bring as a gift to the receiving wireless partner.
  • As your DS searches for a partner, you can close it for the time being. Your dog will bark if it finds someone.
  • You can update your Friends List by meeting other Nintendogs.
  • Your Friends List keeps track of the dogs you've met along your Bark Mode excursions.

Advanced Tricks:

  • After you've taught your dog "sit", you can teach it many more.
  • Jump: to teach your dog jump, call it over to you; if it shakes its butt, tap the top of the Touch Screen to get your Nintendog to leap into the air. Now you can teach your dog jump.
  • Backflip (note: your dog must know "sit" and "jump" to perform this trick): to teach your dog backflip, tell your dog to sit, then immediately tell it to jump. It will do a backflip.

    (More tricks coming soon)

Trainer Points:

  • This is possibly the most important feature of the game. Trainer Points are points awarded by specific achievements.
  • You can obtain 1 or 2 Trainer Points by petting your dog when it sparkles golden.
  • You earn the majority of Trainer Points by scoring 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in contests.
  • You can earn additional Trainer Points by taking your puppy on walks.
  • You can also earn Trainer Points by meeting with other Nintendogs using Bark Mode.
  • By obtaining Trainer Points, you can get new Interior Decoration styles, new care products, and new breeds of dogs at the Kennel.

Thank you so much for reading my guide on Nintendogs. I certainly hope it helps you along your way as a Nintendog trainer. If you have other questions/comments, don't hesitate to ask me via PMs.

I've read this. I'm going to have to over-read it when I have questions but no answers in the game.
