Chapter 5: When Dusty was out of sight, emotions poured down onto Thalia. "Why am I acting like this?" she wondered. She felt like she'd been mean to Dusty, but had Dusty betraid her? It didn't really matter anymore, she was all alone. She only had Dusty, and she drove him away. "I probably drove Mom away, too, and now she died," Thalia said doftly to herself. Then she dug her head into the dirt of the ground and began sobbing. The sky turned dark and there were no stars or even a moon or sun to light it up. The gold in the cave that was quite a dustance away began to shine less until it looked like an ugly yellowish-brown. "There's nothing I can possibly do right, nothing...."Thalia thought again. "I can't have a destiny, I can't, I can't.."
At whatever time it was at the time (the sky was still pitch black), Thalia awoke when someone was nudging her and calling her name. She didn't recognize the voice at first, then realized it was Dusty. He sounded like he should've had a "new and improved" sticker on him because he didn't use his old voice that made him sound so important and special.
"Thalia, you have to wake up, or you'll die!" he shouted. Thalia jumped up.
"What happened? What's wrong?" she questioned frantically. "Thalia, cheer up! I'm sorry for yelling at you about your mom, and you were right about the voice, I got sick of it myself. Plus, now I sound normal, and I'll fit in with every other wolf and coyote, and the Evilkurs won't realize it's me.And-" "What do you mean 'it's you'?" Thalia interrupted, clearly suspicious. "I'm one of the head night creatures that are not on the Evilkurs side. The good ones that your mother was on, and I am on right now, are called Mellies because we don't like to fight, we like living in peace. Anyways, I woke you up because you are sad, and so the sky went dark again, and the gold's shining light went down. You have to realize I'm sorry, and cheer up, then touch the gold and light up the skies. I tried to stay awake and think of another way so I don't have to pour everything on you like this, but I couldn't, and I almost fell asleep. Before I did, I rushed over here because I know I have to wake you up." "Why do you need to wake me up? Why didn't you go to sleep?" "I can't go to sleep. I'm the only one awake right now, and if I go to sleep, noone will ever wake up again, the sun wakes us up, and the sun won't come up without you. Now, realize how happy you can be, and then go deep into the shadows, and go into the cave and light up the skies by touching the gold." Thalia was already approaching the cave when Dusty finished talking. She trotted at a fast speed, so everyone would wake up and Dusty could go to sleep without worrying. Her paws tingled anxiously. She wanted to get to the cave as fast as she could. The soft grass calmed her a bit and probably made her happier, too, because with every step she saw the gold in the distance getting brighter and brighter. But when she was only a step away from the cave, the gold probably turned into that horrible color again because the leaves under her collapsed and she fell into a pit that seemed Evilkur-made.
Chapter 6: Dusty immediately ran over to the deep hole. He was framtic and began shouting for help. He stopped a few minutes later when there was rustling in the bushes. "Is someone there?" He said cautiously. "Please come out, I need some help! She-the princess-is in trouble!" Three wolves jumped out of the bushes, teeth bared. "Out of our way, chum!" one of them ordered. The other wolves pounced onto Dusty and pushed him back into the hole with Thalia. Dusty fell beside Thalia on his back. He yelped when he hit the ground. Thalia walked over to see that Dusty's eyes were closed. He must be unconscious, she thought. Suddenly, as she was busy worrying about Dusty, she was lifted into the air. She looked down to see she was in a net and the leaves that kept it hidden fell through the holes. She lookd up to see that one of the coyotes was pulling a rope in his mouth. "Come on, princess! It's alright, we ain't gonna hurt ya!" another wolf said. "Yeah, come here, pup!" the third wolf added. Thalia tried chewing through the net, then tried jumping up and down to weigh it down, but it was no use. She just laid down and sobbed. When she got to the top, a wolf pushed her onto her feet. "What's going on?" Thalia said through tears. "Just go get the gold, princess. Go around the hole," the wolf that pushed her said. "Why?" "Ben just needs it, go get it!" Suddenly, Thalia remembered the head Evilkur's name, Ben. She began slowly walking to the gold, but then she strained her neck to look back at the wolves. They were pushing Dusty, biting him, and stepping on him for fun, jus to torture the poor coyote. "Leave him alone!" Thalia shouted as she ran back to Dusty and the wolves. "Look, kid, he's dead already, we checked his heartbeat. If h was alive we wouldn't try doing that, because we gotta bring him to Ben." "Yeah, Ben wants gold, so he sent Hunter, Bow, and me to come get it. He thinks you're dead, and if your dead he can get the gold. When you're alive, he can't even touch the gold, so you gotta get it for him. Oh, and Ben doesn't care for Dusty, so he wanted him if he was still alive. "Shush, Arrow! Now-" Bow began. "Wait! Dusty can't be dead! And why can't Ben touch the gold?" "Dusty IS dead, and everyone knows whoever touches the gold that's not Athia, you, or anyone else royal will get shocked." Hunter replied. "Really? I don't believe you." "Fine." Hunter walked over to the gold and touched it with his paw. Suddenly, lightning zapped from the sky and Hunter fell unconscious on the ground. Bow and Arrow ran over to help him, but Thalia walked up to Dusty. She laid her head on his soft light brown fur. She closed her eyes as tears flowed out of them. She didn't feel Dusty take a single breath, she didn't hear the slightest bit of heartbeat. "Thank you so much, Dusty. Please take care of my mom. Good bye," Thalia said. She thought about Dusty's last words. "Light up the skies, touch the gold." se got up and ran to the gold and held her paw on it, crying hysterically.
