Look guys, my dad asked his friend and his friend doesn't know a thing about Gimp, but he said that Photoshop would probably be better since there isn't any risks since Gip is a download. Sooooo what version of Photoshop is good for sigs? D:
At school? Wow. My school's poor. (Actually, they just don't care. The principal's office has a good computer.) Half the moniters are going, and they flicker and all that good stuff. >_<
Get Macromedia Fireworks 8, it's simple, and great. The only bad thing is that you can't download brushes (I don't know how at least.) But Elements I guess. You should download trials.
According to what I've heard, PhotoShop Elements is nothing compared to PhotoShop CS2/CS3.
I've never used a PhotoShop program yet, but I think every one should begin with GIMP, then gradually move on to better programs. That's what about every one else does. (I haven't yet.)
Anyway, if GIMP is confusing to you, then I suggest you stay away from other programs. GIMP is probably the easiest image editing program out there, aside from MS Paint.
And I haven't had any problems with GIMP, and you probably won't. Just because it's a download on the internet doesn't mean it carries a bunch of harmful stuff to your PC.
I hardly think they're a fair comparison. Ever wonder why people say "photoshopped" when they see a amazing picture? :P
It depends what you'll be doing. If you want sigs, go with GIMP; GIMP has most of the same features as Photoshop (If not, similar ones) but is only a bit harder to use. GIMP is my favorite because I don't want to spend alot of money on a art program when a free one can do pretty much the same thing. GIMP isn't just a sig program, it IS possible to do amazing 3D art in it.
But back to the question, any Photoshop is good. CS2/CS3 and Elements are the most commonly used, so one of those. Or all of them if you can afford it. And just so you know, CS3 is $649, extended is $999, CS2 is probably around the same price, and I believe Elements is $100.
Yeah, I wanted Gimp. And I'm actually pretty good with computer stuff, so any program would do. I don't have a PC, I have a Mac. And my dad looked into Gimp, but he was just paranoyed that if something DID happen, he would have no one to call. So yeah, I'm definatly getting Elements in a few weeks. :]

GIMP does have a customer support email/forum I think.
