My cat was hissing and spitting and whatnot when we brought Gretchen home, but she just kind...got used to her. Plus, we kept a child gate on the stairs, so Gretchen had to stay downstairs, (mainly because of her hip problems, but, anywho...) but the cat could go upstairs if she wanted to.
