Okay as some of yu might know my old hamster passed away last year. Well my dad suprised me with a new one. I was happy at first. It's name is Patches and we don't know what gender it is. We got it as a baby and even when it is full grown it hates me. It only likes my dad. When I try to pick him/her up it squirms around and acts like its going to bite me. I really need some advice because I really want to be able to hold Patches.

if you want it to go in your hands. I would put food in my hands, so the little guy would think your giving it food and it would be happy. another advice would make sure it sniffs you a lot and pet it gently, so it would get to know you, or maybe you should stare at it for 24 hours and it will feel a connection. lol anyways I hope this helps you. I'm sorry of your other hamster...

Thanks I would do the let him/her sniff me part but it bites me if I let him/her sniff me. For the food thing I did that but then it just ended up wanting to eat/bit my fingers after awhile. Thanks for the advice though. I do pet Patches gently and it seems to be the only thing that works. And its okay she died of old age and so did my other one.

Wear gloves or mittens, and gently take the hamster out of her cage. Hold her like this for about 5 minutes talking softly, and petting her. Do this about 3-4 times a day or more with at least 2-3 hours between holding her. Eventually after about a week or more, take one glove off (the one you pet her with//NOT the one you hold her with, she might bite you) and do this for another week. Then try it with no gloves. Eventually this will work. I've done it with all my hamsters. If it doesn't work go back and do it all over again. Don't worry, eventually it'll come around and be nice. ;)

Wear a glove like PL said (she beeted mii 2 bah 9 daiz >:B). My old bird used to bite me, but I put on a glove (Actually it was a sock but it worked) and held him. He stopped trying awhile after that.
skaterzpenguin and PL's advice are really good, I'd try it. Not trying to advertise or anything, but you can also ask at the Practical Pet Care boards. They have experts on alot of pets there that will reply to your questions.
