*sniff* I don't know what to do....

My cat, Dewy. She's a Maine Coon. About 8 or 9 years old. Here are pics:

Her hair is matted and oily, I know. It's because she's diabetic. That means she has diabetes and we have to give her two insulin shots daily. We have to spend extra money on her because we have to send her to a pet hospital when we're gone because no where else will give her the shots, and it costs extra for the shots and staying at the hospital.

Here's my dilemma. My family has recently been considering giving her away, but the thought makes me a bit upset. I don't LOVE her very much. She eats our food, and if you don't have food covered she'll take it from the counter and eat it. She whines all day and we rarely have a moment of silence. We want to give her to someone who would care for her more than us, and someone who would love her. We have another cat who has lived with Dewy all her life, because they came from the same litter of cats from the same breeder. She pretty much ignores Dewy, and when they interact, it's usually a cat fight. Just a little waving of paws. I say to my mom that if we give Dewy away, we should get another cat so Lucy (the sister cat) doesn't get lonely, but my mom say we won't because it's too much of a hassle and Lucy never really cared about Dewy.

What do you guys think?

i think she whines because she's kind of old and has to get shots everyday. =( i think u should get another cat because it may seem like they dont like each other, but they really do. and if they just wave paws, and dont hiss or growl, then they're probably just playing

If you don't LOVE her, I think it's fine. But you should re-consider giving her away. You should try to love her. I spend about 1 minute with each cat a day or more! And we have 4! You should give her away if you really don't love her, but think about how different it would be without th meowing, or doing stuff with her. Or all those times she was there. If you don't much want to give her away, but sorta do, give it to someone who lives close to you, so you could see her.

And also, imagine how much she'd miss you guys, and her home, and loving family who actually loves her, and takes care of her. Imagine YOU being her. Having a loving family who cares about her needs, and she thinks loves her just sooooo much. And then being given away to someone else. I'd cry and b VERY sad. ='(

I agree with WKD. =)

If you don't exactly love her, then yeah. But you should really think about it. Giving a pet away is not a small thing.

Giving insoline isn't really that hard, you COULD do it yourself.
I used to know a cat who needed that - and we just did it ourselves. It really wasn't anything special. I think you should ask if that;s a option to this vet or whatever.

I don't think you should give her away just because of diabetes. If they're treated right, they cause no problems.
Before you make your final decision - think it over. It's not something you just wake up one morning and say "I think I'll sell my pet today!".

It's your decision in the end, really, but if I were you I wouldn't get rid of her. She's 9 years old...she doesn't need to have to get used to a whole new place again, and get stressed out with her illness. If you think it's the right decission, go ahead, but coming from me, someone who was forced to get rid of MY cat, you're lucky to have her...

Either way, I love the pictures, she's beautiful!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to try to reply to all of them at once, so prepare.

She whines all day for food. We can't leave food out. Not even my dog's food, she'll eat it. Prosessed dog food. I don't get her....

She doesn't really LIKE Lucy. Sometimes they hiss at each other when they run into each other. That's not a problem, though.

FYI: We wouldn't give her away for OUR benifit. It's because we think she needs someone who will love her more than we do. But....Somehow we can't part with her. cry

I feel cursed...Every animal but my cat Lucy is sick in some way....Dewy's diabetes...Riley's hip displacia....Oh right, Lucy is allergic to some meats, so if Dewy drags a certain type of chicken we like off the table, and begins to eat it, and (somehow) Lucy snags a piece.

Ever since Dewy's been diagnosed everything's been different...She never used to eat meat we threw on the floor for her, but now if we leave a pot of spagetti open she'll stick her paw in and steal some. *sigh* If only Riley, Lucy and Dewy weren't sick, my life would be so different.

Well, I'd suggest finding a loving home for her, if she doesn't like your other cat, and your not to fond of her either, she's proubly better off with someone who doesn't have any cats already. So she can be the "star of the show."

That's only my opioion though.

Thankkkkkk you. And you should just give it some time. I agree that giving it away is nothing small.
