RE: Summer's Thread - HAPPY BDAY! :DD

Yeah she's dead now. Buried 780 miles away.
We put her down because she became suddenly paralyzed. She was only four, so it was a premature death, but far enough into her life that it felt like I'd had her all my life. The choice to put her to sleep was all made in a matter of minutes, the day starting with me thinking she'd just have surgery or a wheelchair, and ending with her being dead and buried.

We never got to breed her.
We held her and she licked me, I took a video, and then we killed her. Just because we couldn't afford surgery and there was a flimsy belief she'd probably get worse. I regret it, naturally. In the end, I could have fought for her life and had it, but I just let her die.

We got an 8 year old maltipoo dude soon afterwards.
As for our cats...
Boots never came back one day.
Because we're moving, we're also going to have to give away Dante and Pumpkin.
Between my last post and now we also got a cat named Lucy when her owner died from problems likely caused by Lucy. We had her for a year or two, and then gave her back to her dad.

I'm sorry. We're moving too, so we just gave away my three outside cats a few days ago. 8'

Sorry to hear that :(

I know you always get this when a pet dies, but I know how it feels; my dog Hannah suddenly got sick and died last year. She had a reaction to a rabies shot and we sat with her as she had seizures for 8 hours straight in the middle of the night.

But at least you gave Summer a good life. I don't think you should feel bad for putting her down; some people like to try and guilt you for it, but her suffering would have only been prolonged if you didn't. At some point it wouldn't be fair not to do it; we put Hannah down once the sun was up and we could call the vet. We only regret not being able to do it hours earlier, so she didn't have to suffer for that long.

Yeah, I get it. I never was really able to share that feeling of loss before with other people, so that's one good thing I got out of this. Before I lost Summer, I didn't really understand loss. I was too young to understand any other deaths beforehand, and it had been years since any loss. But now that I'm of age, the loss of Summer helps me relate with others.

That sucks, Pelord. I don't know if I could have made it through seeing her suffering-- but then again, maybe seeing her suffering would convince me I did the right thing. But death is death, no matter how it comes. All situations have pros and cons, so I'll try and look on the bright side. There's no point in thinking about what I could have done once I've learned from the experience.

Thanks for the comfort, guys.
