~* Sapphire Eyes *~ Chapter Three Up!

Sapphire Eyes

Here is a fan fic I've been working on called Sapphire Eyes. It's a wolf story. Anyways, please enjoy the prolouge and then let me post edits.

Prologue
I breathe in the crisp evening air and sigh. Autumn leaves gently float to the ground, and one lands on my nose. With a sniffle, I sneeze, splattering snot over myself. I am waiting. Waiting for the howl. The beautiful, smooth howl that I wait for every night that sends the peaceful alarm to me that my family is safe.  I imagine Jaye, my mate, and my beloved little ones, Lizzie, Storm, and Fern groveling for his deep attention at his paws. I miss them so. Their furry ruffled pelts and damp sharp noses, their love for me. And now they are gone. Away from me, vanished from my sight. All I can do is imagine. And I do.

RE: Sapphire Eyes

Chapter Three
Nikira
The wind rustles the leaves on other trees lightly as I yawn an enormous yawn. I did not get much sleep last night, and I am tired. Still, it is too bright for me to go back to sleep, and the birds are chirping too loudly. Suddenly, I hear a howl.
I am now awake and ready to run. And I do. I follow the howl until I come to a beautiful crystal-clear lake. I gaze into it, and my gray reflection greets me. I gently poke it with a long claw, and my face ripples in the blue, blue water. I give a slight smile, as does my imaginary partner. This is my friend, I think. I am not so lonely anymore with you. I say. I will call you Blue Stream, for you are me, but underwater. Blue Stream grins. She leaps out of the lake and nuzzles my chin. I rub against her, sobbing into her damp fur. I am scared and sad; I want to see Jaye again. Blue Stream comforts me, and I gaze deeply into her eyes, blue as sapphires.
Her sapphire eyes tell me everything will be okay. I just know it. And those glistening blue pupils hold the future beneath those long eyelashes, and I am determined to figure it out. Will I ever see Jaye and my pups again? Blue Stream can answer me.
I am terrified to ask though. Blue Stream is a wise one; what if Ill never see them again? Briefly I hear a squeal, and feel a bullet shoot through my body. I am remembering the moment again. I look into Blue Streams eyes, and the moment vanishes almost instantly. You are the hope in my life, I tell Blue Stream. She nods, then swoops away into the crashing blue waves of the lake. I watch her disappear beneath the deadly strokes of fresh water.

Nikira is here. I see her slender shape and bright, adventures eyes. She is here, my best friend. Joyfully, I dash over to her for a long greeting. She is happy to see me, I can tell. As am I to see you, I think. We press our bodies into each others, and then lick. I breathe in her sweet flowery scent and sigh. Memories flood my mind.
Nikiras soft, calming brown pupils soothe me as I gaze into them. They are not sapphire, but a gentle chocolate. I miss sapphire eyes. Her white coat is draped over her strong bones, and her figure astounds me. But she is not a reflection, she is a new soul. And I do not feel part of her.
She noses my neck and I shiver. Her nose is glossy and cold, but I do not pull away. My fur is soggy and damp after the earlier cloudburst, but we do not care as we nuzzle together. But all I can think about is Blue Stream.
I instantly wake up and sigh. Nikira is gone; it was just a worthless dream. I become angry and hurl myself at a tree, a sharp piece of bark splitting my side. But I do not care. I remember Kuraq, another loyal member of my former pack I used to be in. I remember his buff body and protective shoulders. I almost feel his golden pelt brush my side, but as I turn I realize it is only a pine branch. My eyes cloud with grief. I may never see him again, yet I respect him so.
Right then, fierce claws strike my flank, and I immediately plunge into the soil. After rows of sharp fangs sink into my neck, everything goes black.

Chapter One
Visions

Lizzie reminds me of a curious butterfly, bright but troublemaking. She is a feisty young thing, but such a lover at that. Her lively, cheerful attitude makes my grin grow, and she and Fern get along nicely. I see them playing sometimes. They chase rabbits (although theyve never caught one), they flip rocks to see the underground world, and they bounce around like jumpy toads. Storm races after the two sisters, trying to catch their attention. Then I watch them all dash away into the forest. I miss those days.
Where did they go? Where is my family hiding?
I wish that day never happened. That dreadful, dreary day. The day I got separated from my youngsters and Jaye. I remember it clearly. But I want it washed away.
Sadness sweeps over me as I have a brief flashback.

I am sitting in the meadow near the woods. My pups are scattered around me, and my chin is rested on Jayes soft head. It is sprinkling outside, and my fur is damp. Suddenly, I hear a gunshot, and a hunter gets in view. I jump up and gently pick up Lizzie in my jaws. She sways, but remains unharmed. Jaye throws Fern onto his back and retrieves Storm. We all bolt away as a pack. We think we are safe.

The vision is too clear to picture. Too awful and horrible to think about. I lie down and paw at a bright red leaf. It rustles lightly, and I flick it. The leaf tumbles away behind a tree. The annoying hum of the air drones on. I hear the air. It is loud as a mouse, but soft as thunder. I keep quiet, and the vision continues.

Another gunshot booms. They are surrounding us. Angry men with guns. Slowly, our families drift away as a hefty man corners Jaye, and I panic. Another man startles me and Lizzie drops out of my mouth. Yelping frantically, I leap over to my pup, who is finally awake, green eyes wide with terror. But the man grabs her before me. He is carrying her away. I am angry. Without thinking, I hurl myself at the man stealing my daughter and bite him hard. Lizzie is thrown from shock, and she lands near Jaye, and she quickly hitches a ride with him. Now I am scared.

I shiver. This flashback always scares me. I am frightened and lonely. I wish Jaye and Lizzie and Storm and Fern were here to comfort me. All I want is to breathe in their deep scent again. But that is not possible when their location is a mystery.
Life isnt fair. Nothing about life is fair. Its not fair I didnt get to see my pups grow up; its not fair I will probably never see my mate again. Nothings fair. But thats the way things are, and you just have to deal with it and move on. So I do. I cant change the past, so I leave the dreadful scene behind. The ending begs for me to reveal itself, but I keep quiet. Shh, ending. I do not want to hear you. I spat. The ending quits nagging me, and I curl up in the leaf pile and drift off to sleep. But now I am scared to dream.

Chapter Two
Storm

I wake up. The night is quiet and peaceful. Suddenly there is a faint flash in the sky, and I realize it is pouring. My fur is soaked to the skin, and I am cold and hungry. Thunder cracks the sky and the quiet night, and now I am trembling from the wet rain. Holding my breath, my ears droop and I pelt out from under the tree, out into the fierce night, under the twinkling stars. Thunder drones out my thoughts; I cannot think.
The storm continues as I dart over to a hollow tree. I go inside and curl up in its soft sod. It is spacious and roomy in the tree. There are bark pieces scattered across the soil, and little patches of grass randomly poking out. I try to sleep again, but the thunder is too loud and the lightning too bright. So I dream without sleeping.
I remember Lizzies first rabbit she caught. It was a sunny day, and it was Lizzies first hunt. I remember instructing her, but she never succeeded. She had already scared off three fish and one chicken. I was starting to believe there was no hope, when suddenly; a quick flash of white fur caught my eye. I turned, and Lizzie was creeping up on a bunny. Silently praying this would be her time, I watched as Lizzie pounced swiftly and killed the rabbit with a quick blow. I remember celebrating with her, and how proud she was of her victory.

***

It is late now. The storm is still going, but I do not care anymore. All I can think about is my family. I daydream at least thirty stories of what we all did. Then I run through them again so I do not forget them. I cant lose them.
I am tired now. Slowly, I lower my head until it touches the soft dirt. I curl my gray paws up around my chin and drift off to sleep again.

There are hunters around me. I am frightened at first, but then I see Jaye. Jaye! I yip excitedly and bound over to him. But a beefy man stops me and aims his gun directly at me. I screech to a halt. Meanwhile, Jaye escapes and dashes away, glancing at me worriedly. Then I see. The ending. The ending of the dreadful vision. It is haunting me. Go, Jaye, I force myself to say. I will find you. It hurts me deeply as I see him and my beloved children bolt away. The man pulls the trigger on his gun. A bullet pierces my side, and I drop.

***

I wake up. The hunters are gone. The first thing I notice is a large gash in my pelt with ruby red blood trickling out of it. Some is dried blood attached to my fur. But I do not worry about that. Jaye? I moan. No answer. Jaye! I yelp frantically. I hear no yips or howls. I told them to go. And they are gone.

I jolt awake from my horrifying dream and shiver. The ending came anyways. The storm is over, but my head is whirling. I cannot get that vision out of my head. So I stay there and think about that horrible time, the calling and horror and sadness. And I bury my nose in the soil.

I didn't get a chance to read chapter one yet, but the prolouge is written very well, very interesting, too.

EDIT: Oh. My. Gosh. Wonderful writing. absolutly wonderful. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see more.

EDIT 2: Also, I wanted to coment on the tense, you don't see a lot of stories, novels, anything written in present tense, because it's sometimes difficult to get a point across or you run into other difficulties, but you did a wonderful job. It flows very nicely, and it sounds wonderful. Fantastic job.

I love it..it's amazing, and easy to follow...alot of stories I read that jump from the past to the present are hard to follow, but I think it's easy to see where you are with the story! Nice job! smile.gif
