Chapter 3: Saved with the Flck of His Nose Jamie sunk into the water, motionless. Then she suddenly began moving her arms and legs rapidly, not knowing what was going on. Then she saw a gentle face with a long body and some fins, and remembered the great serpent. She was so close to it. It began coming towards her. Jamie didn't know what to do. She was afraid of scaring it, but she needed air. She began moving her arms and legs rapidly in a struggle to get to the surface, but she just couldn't. Her energy was being sucked from her as she desperately tried to get air. She was looking at the surface, but when she turned her head, the serpent's face was there. It's snout was like a dragon's, and it's eyes were kind and inviting. The serpent began desperately circling around Jamie, wondering what was wrong. Jamie wasn't moving anymore, and her eyes were closed. The serpent quickly thought, then remembered how Jamie kept looking up. It zoomed under her and pushed her up with a flick of his nose, and held her up with his large fin. Jamies head didn't stay up very well, so the serpent pushed her through the water to the pier, placed her on his nose, and stretched out his body to place her on the pier, where she came from. Then, the serpent made a sort dolphin-like noise, and an odd creature came up to the surface. The serpent made another dolphin noise, and then placed the creature up by Jamie. The sea serpent made a final dolphin noise and returned to the depths of the ocean.
Jamie awoke with the bright sun in her eyes. She just laid there for a while. She turned her head and saw a small snake right in front of her. She shrieked in shock, and someone picked up the snake. It wiggled around a lot, clearly frightened. A tail like a mermaid's stuck out of the water and a loud moan was heard. "What's your name, young lady?" someone said. Jamie looked up and saw some people. The one talking to her was a woman with wavy brown hair. Jamie replied, "What will you do with that snake?" "We're just going to take it to get it checked out because we can't tell exactly what species it is. I need to know you're name, though."
Suddenly, the tail sticking out of the water crashed down under the surface, and a huge wave pulled Jamie, the snake, and the other people into the ocean. Somehow, Jamie could see perfectly clear under the water, even without her goggles. She swam better, too. She went farther out into the ocean, but the other people swam to shore. Jamie saw the sea snake, with beautiful scales just like the sea serpent's, swimming ahead of her. It's whole body were like arches when it swam. Jamie had never seen this little species of sea snake before, and wondered how it could slither on land, too. Jamie saw a huge body of scales. It was the sea serpent again, but it didn't look friendly at all, for it's huge sharp teeth were bared and it seemed to be glaring right at her.
