Xentex's First Tutorial (As posted on NS)

Hey everyone! I was having a bunch of "how do I do the cool rain effect` type E-mails so I dicided to make a quick and easy tutorial.

Step 1

Okay Firstly, Click File>Open>*Select a nice image*

Step 2

Now click Layer>Duplicate Layer do this twice, so that you have 3 of the same layer

Step 3

Now click Layer>New Layer when the pop-up comes up, instead of transparency, click white do this two more times. You should now have 6 layers,  3 of your picture and 3 blank white ones.

Step 4

Re-order the layers so that you have a background layer with a white layer on top of it. The layers should alternate. Do this by clicking Dialogues>Layers>*click the up and down arrows and stuff till they alternate* (Make sure a white layer is above a duplicate of the image).

The pop-up should look sort-of like this:

-White, blank layer

-Duplicate of image

-white, blank layer

-Duplicate of image

-white, blank layer

-background (Make sure this is at the bottom)

Step 5

Keep your Layer Dialogue pop-up open! Now make sure that your top white layer is active. (click on it.)

Go to Filters>Noise>Scatter RGB

change the Red, Green and Blue so that they are all 0.55. Now turn off Indapentent RGB. Click OK

Now this is where it gets tricky, so listen up. Select your next white image down, and press CTRL-F. Repeat. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE DUPLICATES OF THE ORIGINAL IMAGE! Only on the white ones! All of your white images should have dots all over them.

Step 6

Finally, in this step you will see the results of your labour 16x16_robot-very-happy.gif...

Go to Filters-Blur-Motion Blur. Dont change any of the settings. Click OK.

Select your next white/dotted image, hit CTRL-F. Repeat. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE DUPLICATES OF THE ORIGINAL IMAGE! Only on the white ones!

Step 7

Now go to your layers dialogues box and click on the top white layer. Now go to the drop-down box on the top of the pop-up and click Multiply. Do this for all of your white layers.

Step 8

Almost done 16x16_robot-wink.gif Okay so activate your top white layer, (Dialogue layer pop-up) Now go back to your main image and click Layer-Merge down. Go back to your layers box and activate your next white layer down. Now go back to your main image again, click Layer-Merge Down. repeat this for your next white layer and you should have 3 layers left.

Step 9 - Animation

Go to Filters-Animation-Optimize (for GIF). You should get a popup of the same image, Go to File-Save As-*name it*.gif

Make sure that when you name it, to put a .gif after it. Now another popup will come up. Click on save as animation, and then click on convert to indexed -blah blah blah- Click OKAY. Another popup will show, Dont do anything, just click OKAY again.

Step 10

CONGATS! You just created an animated, rain image! Post your results, and-or feedback here 16x16_robot-very-happy.gif
