The Southern Herd: A Ray of Hope

Hello! This is my first horse fanfic, hope you like it!

CHAPTERS

The Southern Herd: A Ray of Hope
Prologue

The sun slowly approached by the mountains, illuminating each corner of the valley on which the Southern Herd horses lived. The wind blew away their worries; they were happy most of the time. RainFeather was the daughter of Camila, the leader of the herd. RainFeather, or as she preferred to be called "Rain," was always by Camila's side. Since she was a young filly, she enjoyed watching her own reflection on the nearest river, and talk to herself. Akimbo, RainFeather's father, was a black and white Spanish Mustang who loved to be free. His ice blue eyes couldn't be described, they were the ones who made Camila fall in love with him. RainFeather always was near, but one day she decided to wander off and start a new life. Camila and Akimbo said good-bye with tears in their eyes, but their hearts were happy, because they always wanted that Rain would someday be mature enough to make her own herd. As fast as you can wink, RainFeather found herself alone, running in the valley of the unknown...

The night arrived. The stars shined like crystals in a dark blue sky, along with the moon who made RainFeather company. The owls and night critters scared Rain, because she was used to sleep with her family.

"C'mon I am three years old, I can sleep by myself! Now, now be brave Rain," she tried to close her eyes. Later then, she fell asleep.

The sun appeared by the mountains again, showing that it was time to wake up. RainFeather hesitated, but she opened her eyes. She saw that her coat was wet, which made her smile. She thought that it may been the rain that felled last night. She thought everything was perfect, but it wasn't. She felt something missing... she frowned and a tear rolled down from her greenish, brownish eyes.

"Wow I miss them already. Thats how much I loved them. I hope theyre fine," said Rain as she got on her four legs, and started to walk. The hours went by, and RainFeather was still walking, wondering her way to a new home. Suddenly, she saw a mysterious figure at the seemed end of the valley. She tilted her head, and her ears perked up. She decided to run towards it. She thought it was another horse, and it looked like one! So she started to gallop, and then run to it. As she advanced, she noticed it was a black horse. The black figure seemed to notice Rain, so the figure stood there, motionless.

"Hello? Im RainFeather! Who are you?" yelled Rain as she standed about 20 feet from the figure.

"Khan," replied the horse. "What takes you here, mare?"
"I am looking forward to start a herd, and Ill need help!" said Rain as she walked forwards Khan.
"Interesting, I can help," nodded Khan.
"Great, thanks!" smiled Rain.

The two horses started talking all day long. They introduced themselves and such. The night came, so Rain and Khan looked for a place to sleep.

I really, really like it. Except there's a slight issue.. but I'm not sure how you want to write this story, like if you want it to be fictional or whatnot.

But the stallions start herds, not mares. So basically, the position Rain's in right now is what a young bachelor stallion would be in. The mares get stolen by other stallions.

But there can be lone mares as well, I guess. :]

Although I really like where your story is going, so don't change it because because of me, the dorky horse girl. :P
