I got my D40 early today :O
Goin to Pinnacles on the weekend so my dad figured I should practice.

Photobucket screwed with the quality in alot of them, I'll take lox advice and save in PNG next time.

My first photo with it. The focus is off but come on, it was my first one. Plus the lighting was kinda low because it was the evening and I dunno what settings were on that thing.

The rest of the flower pics were all blurry due to really low lighting (I managed to hold the first pic rather still). I noticed a flashing question mark in the bottom of the menu... I pressed it to see wut it was tryin to tell me, and it said "Lighting is poor. Flash recommended."
"OK D40!" i said

Way better. The nikon's menu is great.

I tested on Cooter. I like the way it focused. I got lucky on that one because i wasn't using auto.

Sophie wasn't a very good test subject. Even with 2.5 FPS I can't get a good picture with her eyes showing >:(

Hannah ran away.

mmm

i was just screwing with the white balance modes. It wasn't on Fluorescent... it wuz on that other lightbulb mode

After this me my bro and my dad took a bunch of star photos with it. Some were out of focus but others turned out cool.

out of focus, but at least it picked them up - it's a bad comparison with the D40 being a SLR but with the Fuji, in low light it had nothing but distortion, so much that you couldn't tell distortion from stars. It rly sucked on that camera.

it was too dark that we didn't even know it was out of focus (we had it on manual) until we put it on the compooper.

My bro was screwing with my camera and while waiting I spotted that flower in front of my neighbor's window and thought the silhouette was nice, so when my bro was done I took some pics of that. All for testing purposes mirite

That bright white star in the middle is Mars :O

I had no idea a 30 second exposure would capture the star movement like that. Cool.

I screwed up the focus on purpose and took a picture of someone's porch light (which is ALWAYS on... thankfully it didnt screw with the long exposures).

mars :O

I screwed up the focus - the water tower looks like you're watching a TV-14 episode of Survivor now.

The moon started to come out through some trees.

I think my dad took that one. Frikkin sweet though o_O

A while later the moon came out through another tree and I actually got good pics of that.

oops

neckst up I took teh epic water photos ive alwayz bin hearin bout

Some of them I screwed up the composition on, I was working in the dark (all of those were taken with flash).

Lastly I tried out the in-camera editing system on some of those.

I was just being silly, but this showed me what a good coloring job it actually does.

Buying the D40 is the best choice I've ever made, I'm extremely impressed with it.

The one your Dad took I like best, the star movement is really cool in the long one too. :D

I like those ones too, can't wait to see what moving star effects I'll get with the remote. It should come later today so I might try it tonight if it does.

That camera was keeping me up last night, I took some more water shots before going to bed... most of it was rappid shot so I could get some water drops, I didn't get many but the ripples are cool looking too. Some of the composition was off though.

Probably one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken.

Later I found out what the "bulb" shutter mode was (lets you hold down the shutter as long as you want) and I knew it wouldn't turn out good but I tried it on a tripod anyway.

looks like a bunch of eyes staring evileye

thats all folks

thx gilly ily all <3

I just got so lucky man D:
I got my remote today and I went outside to try it, but the wind tossed a bunch of dirt into my eye and I figured that got on the lens too, so I took it inside thinking there was a scratch (turned out to be a smudge) and cleaned it. Thankfully it was fine, but this is exactly why I want filters... at least I'm getting them tomorrow. I should, anyway.

But I took some RAWs earlier, im gonna see how good of an HDR I can get out of them.
