Speech about Animal Cruelty for school...

Let me warn you now, this is very long. You see, my best friend and I were in computer lab on thursday and we both stumbled across a website with very disturbing images of hurt animals. Both of us, being the animal lovers we are, were very shocked by this cruelty. We decided to both write a speech about some very important topics that our school must learn about. She is researching strays, how some cows/pigs/whatever are getting slaughtered and somehting else. I researched pit bull banning (in Canada), animal testing and puppy mills. This is the speech I am going to say in front of the whole school at an assembly or maybe going class to class. Like I said, it's very long. Read if you dare. And if you have any ideas how to make it better, please tell me them. Any criticism is welcomed, but it can't be super rude. Thanks! :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Imagine your whole life being hit, starved and locked up in a cage. Unfair, right? But then why do some people do this to animals? There are millions of cats and dogs all around the world, with no home. They were abused, abandoned and just left alone to die. Its horrible how someone would even do that to such innocent creatures. Think of a pit-bull. There were quite a lot of pit-bull attacks in Canada, and to stop the attacks, some places banned the dogs. Now, is it the dogs fault that they attacked? Some of you may say yes, but others no. Believe it or not, it is the owners fault. They didnt take enough time to give the dog proper training. All thanks to them, lots of pit-bulls were killed unnecessarily. So why not ban pizza? Some people can be deathly allergic to it, so lets ban it! We should also ban peanut butter, chocolate and even eggs! Most of you probably dont like the idea of banning those foods and I dont either, but then why were pit-bulls banned? Lots of peoples beloved pit-bulls were killed, even the most friendly ones. Accidents happen, so we kill cause of it!? Thats dumb. If an accident happens, fix it and think of ways so it might not happen again that wont cause any creature to die.
Animal testing, a cruel thing to do to a poor animal. What would you do if your favorite shampoo or make-up product was tested on animals? Keep using it, or throw it away? I would throw it away. People test things on animal to make sure the product doesnt harm anyone or to make sure it works properly. But is it really the right way to figure that out? There are better ways to test. Instead of testing shampoo on animals, why not test it on a mannequin? Just put a wig on it and try out the shampoo on the wig. You can even test on a close friend or family member that volunteer! There are many different animals being tested on, rats, rabbits, dogs and even monkeys! Rats are most commonly used because they reproduce very fast and are very easy to care for. Though rats are treated a lot like a thing the stress they go through in the laboratory sometimes results in suffering and even death. The pain the rats go through is unbelievable. They bleed from the eyes or mouth, they try to get away but their back feet are taped to ground and then once the testing is done they are thrown away like trash. When I read about what they go through, I cried. Its so inhumane to do that.
Have you ever gone to a pet store only to see the cute puppies? I have. Ive always asked myself, where do the pet stores get the puppies? Now I know, and you should too. Over-crowded cages, poor food quality and lack of human socialization are some things a puppy goes through in a puppy mill. Puppy mills are breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies. The females are bred and bred to make more puppies, that is pretty much their whole life. The puppies are sold to pet stores all across Canada and the US. How can we stop puppy mills? For one, dont buy a puppy from a pet store, but one from an animal shelter or a trusted breeder. Secondly, if you do want a puppy from a pet store, insist to see the puppys health certificate and breed registry papers. It should list who the breeder is and their address. Maybe one day, the puppies will be freed from the small cages, and all have loving homes.
Thank you for listening! Btw, underlined means it was edited!
That was pretty good!
But at eth beginning when yous said "Then why do WE do this to animals?" Not all ppl do it, so maybe u should change that. it almost sounds like you're accusing teh students. XD
Awesome job, and I know how you feel.
I recently did a project on this for school, and the images I saw and the research I got was unbelievable.
Horrible, horrible thing.
Thank you! It really is horrible. I knew after I saw those pictures that something must be done about it. Even this small speech will help a lot.
Loved it Rach! I agree 100%. It's one of the most cruel things out there, and one of those things that gets by unpunished when it shouldn't have...
Very nice. An essay that actually does something important. Instead of writing an essay on a baseball team, or hockey team, you did a subject that has turnd into a problem.
I can say that animal cruetly is terrible, and this essay really gives good example. 'Specially with the pit-bull parts. You might not think it, but I really love pitbulls. (Obviously not the way Michael Vick does.) I met 2 pitbulls not long ago, and all they wanted was to be loved. They laid next to me, and licked me. (I'm sad I couldnt adopt them. ;-;) And if they were killed before someone adopted them, it would be a true shame.
It's kinda like the breeds all go through some time of people hating them and fearing them. Before everyone feared pitbulls, they feared Dobermans. Then the Dobermans got their reputation back, and now it's pitbulls. (People also hate Chows - I met a chow and he was so sweet. Sweetest dog in the world and someone had abandoned him.)
Thanks, it means a lot to me that people like my essay thingy and also how people understand that this is a serious topic about something that is happening!
I know where I live, pitbulls are banned. And it really is a shame. They are actually very gentle (from what I've experienced when I was younger) and they were obviously misunderstood by lots of people. May all those pitbulls and other animals that lost their lives to banning/cruelty rest in peace!
Overall it sounds okay, but since I'm a nit-picker, here's a couple of things that I think is weird-
"Accidents happen, so we kill cause of it!? Thats dumb."
If there's a way to fix it, tell me. You can't really force every single owner of a pit bull to go out and get proper training. If you did, how would you enforce it? It's easy to say things, but it's harder to actually go out there and accomplish it. And even if they did go out and get proper training, even that's not guaranteed to work. Pit bulls were bred to be aggressive, persistant-when-attacking animals. Sometimes training can't get past instinct.
Also, so you know for a fact that pretty much every single pet store gets its dogs from puppy mills? I'm sure some do, but you make it sound like it happens 100% of the time. I doubt that.
