~ Keygan's Hope ~

The sun was just rising, and the sky was a bright red. The wind blew Serena's brown hair in and out of her face as she sat on the front porch. She rested her head on her cold hands as she daydreamed of owning the perfect dog. Ever since she was a little girl, she wished of owning a pup. "If we live on a farm you would think we would have a dog" were the words that constantly rolled through her mind. As Serena's eyes studied the grass before her, a black, mud splattered truck wobbled up the dirt driveway.

It was Serena's best friend Luke. Luke popped out of the back seat and shut the truck door behind him.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yup. Which horse do you want to take?" Serena replied.
The two planned to take a trail ride. They were on school break for Thanksgiving and needed something to do. They never took trail rides when school was in, so they thought it was a good idea.

Luke answered "I'll take Apollo."
When they got to the barn, Serena saddled up the Paint mare, Summerwind, while Luke saddled up the sleek black Stallion, Apollo. As they rode of onto the trail, the smell of animals and hay left the air and filled with the smell of fresh pine.

As the horses plodded on, the morning faded into the afternoon and storm clouds started to form in the sky. It became darker and darker, untill the horses didn't want to take one step further. They sensed the storm, and they didn't like it. Serena and Luke slid off the horses and tried to comfort them. Suddenly, Serena heard a sound in the bushes. She checked to see Luke wasn't looking and tiptoed over.

"...Hello?" she whispered. Then, a massive Great Dane carefully walked over to Serena.
"Hey, boy," she comforted as she pet the dog's head, "how are you?"
"Hey, Serena," Luke called as he turned around "I thi-...What are you doing?"
Luke's shout spooked the Dane and he ran back in his bush hide out.
"I was petting him, and he was nice...and you scared him," Serena complained.
"Well, sorry...lets go," said Luke. But Serena didn't budge.
Luke grabbed her hand and dragged her along back to the horses.

Later, after Luke and Serena returned form the ride and Luke was about to leave, Serena's parents stopped him.

" Yeah, Mr. Wilson?" Asked Luke
"Luke...as you know Serena's birthday is next month," Mr. Wilson started.
Mrs. Wilson popped in, "and we're thinking of getting her a dog. Just don't tell her, okay?"
"Oh..." Luke was reminded of the Great Dane Serena found on the trail, "Thats a good idea. I won't tell her," he said goodbye and made his way home.

After everything settled down, Serena and her mom and dad went to bed. But Serena couldn't help but stay awake, and she knew why. The Great Dane. She looked out her window to see the trees dancing in the autumn breeze. She looked at the clock. "2:28 AM" was the time. She hopped out of bed and pulled on long pants, and grabbed a jacket from the chair by her desk. She sneaked through the hall way, down the stairs, into the living room and out the front door. She ran to the barn and pushed open the red doors. Serena unlocked Gallentry's stall and quickly saddled her up and hopped on. She led the mare down the trail to search for the stray Great Dane. When she reached the bushes where the Dane had walked in before, she dismounted and walked cautiously over.

"Here, boy..." she coaxed, " c-come on..."
First, a wet nose peaked out from the bushes, then a head, then the rest of the body of the Great Dane.
"Hey boy! Your gonna come with me," Serena squeeled.
She gave him a bellyrub and led him over to Gallentry, and the three strolled home.
The next morning, Luke and Serena were hanging out in the barn
"You remember the dog we saw a few days ago?" Serena whispered.
"Yeah," Luke replied.
Serena smiled, "well..."
"Don't tell me you-..."
"I brought him home," Serena got up from the hay stack and walked to an empty stall. Luke followed.
Serena unlatched the stall door and Lukes eyes widened. Out of the shadows came a 35 inch tall Harlequin Great Dane.
"Your parents let you keep him?" Luke was puzzled as he reached out a shakey hand to pet the animal.

"I didn't tell them yet, but I'm gonna go get them now and ask. My birthday is soon and I don't care if its the last present I get in my entire life. I need this dog," Serena protested,"And I already named him....Keygan."

Serena ran and found her parents and pulled them along to the barn, but before she let them enter, she said, "You're probably gonna get mad at me..." she started, "But this is my dream and I need it. Please," and she let them inside.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson gasped at what stood before them.

"Can we please, please, please keep him? He's really nice and I named him Keygan," Serena protested.
"Well...maybe," Mr. Wilson began and Serena's eyes brightened, "we were going to get you a dog for your birthday, but...it looks like you've already found one."
"So we can keep him?!" Serena screamed.
"Yes," Mr. Wilson answered.
Serena hugged her paranets, then Luke. And, of course, she gave Keygan a huge hug.

Serena's life with Keygan continued for years Serena and Luke ran through the feilds with Keygan and played fetch. All of the animals, including the cats, were fine with the dog being around. Life seemed so much brighter with Keygan. The Wilson family was completed. Serena was happy, and finally, Keygan was happy too. Not many people would want a dog as big as Keygan, but Serena didn't mind. He was just perfect for her.

Sorry if its a little messed up. I'll fix it later. :P
Hope you liked it.
